Black Orchid Lonnie Simmons
Black Orchid
Lonnie Simmons
A dual threat on both sax and organ, Lonnie Simmons gigged with the Savoy Sultans, Chick Webb's ghost band and picked up his jones for the keyboard while in Fats Waller's combo. Heard here overdubbed on the ballads "Black Orchid" and "I Can't Get Started", Simmons reveals his dexterity on both instruments as well as providing a nice change of pace in the program. This rare single was recorded in 1953 for Chicago's Parrot label, originally intended for the then thriving Black Jukebox market. Newly remastered.
