Bonelli: Complete Keyboard Music
Federico Del Sordo
Aurelio Bonelli (c. 1569-after 1620) was a versatile artist: an organist, composer and a painter: he painted frescos of Bologna's Olivetan Monastery of San Michele in Bosco. In 1611 he succeeded Adriano Banchieri as organist of this monastery. All of Bonelli's surviving keyboard works appear in the printed "Il primo libro de ricercari e canzoni a Quattro voci". They consist of eight 4-part ricercari, eight 4-part canzoni, two 8-art toccatas and two 8-art dialoghi. As the manuscript doesn't specify an instrument the artist is free in choice. On this new recording Federico Del Sordo plays three instruments, the organ, harpsichord and clavichord. The historic organ of
the church of San Magno in Amellia dates from ca 1600 and was meticulously restored in 1996, retaining its original timbre. Federico Del Sordo is a prominent scholar and keyboard player, he already made several highly regarded recordings for Brilliant Classics with works by Antegnati, Fasolo, Merulo, Salvatore and Veracini.
