Stanley Turrentine
Tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine (1934-2000) was born into a musical family in Pittsburgh's Hill District (his older brother Tommy would become a professional trumpet player). Stanley began his prolific career with blues and R&B bands, and was at first greatly influenced by Illinois Jacquet. Presented here are four of the saxophonist's best albums, all of them presenting him as the only horn in trio/quartet settings.
The LPs included in their entireties are:
Look Out! (Blue Note BLP 4039),
That's Where It's At (Blue Note BST 84081),
Dearly Beloved (Blue Note BST 84081), and
Stan "The Man" Turrentine (Time Records Vol. 7).
