My Blue Note Days - Selected Blue Note Recordings 1995-2002
Caecilie Norby
Cæcilie Norby celebrates 30 years with Blue Note Records on the double vinyl My Blue Note Days.
2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Cæcilie Norby's debut on the legendary jazz label Blue Note Records. The anniversary is commemorated with the compilation album My Blue Note Days, which gathers 20 carefully selected recordings from four Blue Note albums released between 1995 and 2002 - a period that became groundbreaking for Cæcilie Norby's artistic development and international breakthrough. The album serves both as a musical retrospective and as a portrait of the years when she found her own voice in the encounter between jazz traditions and her own modern approach to the genre.
"My Blue Note Days gathers a very special chapter in my musical life - the years from 1995 to 2002, when I became part of the legendary Blue Note Records. It was a time characterized by curiosity, courage, and a deep love for jazz in all its forms," says Cæcilie Norby.
The recordings came about during a period when Cæcilie Norby moved between extensive pop productions and intimate jazz scenes. Precisely the tension between these two worlds created a more spontaneous and uncompromising way of working, where presence, improvisation, and the interplay between the musicians became the central element.
The album also holds memories of the iconic studios in New York and Copenhagen, collaborations with some of jazz's biggest names, and the experience of recording her first solo albums. Not least, the period marks a historical moment, as Cæcilie Norby became the first Scandinavian artist ever to be signed by Blue Note Records.
Behind the signing was the legendary Blue Note boss Bruce Lundvall, who quickly spotted Cæcilie Norby's talent.
"It was a tremendous honor to be signed by Bruce Lundvall. His trust and vision opened the door internationally for me in the years that followed. When I listen to the Blue Note recordings today, I not only hear who I was back then - I also hear the beginning of the sound that is the core of who I am today."
The story of the meeting with Lundvall has in itself become part of Cæcilie Norby's personal musical narrative. The first meeting in Manhattan almost never happened, as she accidentally missed the appointment. Fortunately, she got another chance the next day. After listening intently to the album from start to finish, Lundvall signed her on the spot.
With My Blue Note Days, Cæcilie Norby invites the audience back to one of the most significant chapters in her career - and to the music that continues to form the foundation of her artistic work today.
