Very welcome reissue for this super-rare and mega-expensive 12” on Peter Brown’s cult disco label Golden Flamingo. Originally released in 1980, ‘Smooth Talk’ gives a nod to NY’s burgeoning hip-hop scene with the charming Mr Fox delivering a smooth, sexy and effortlessly elegant non-stop rap over a highly infectious disco backing track. The instrumental version of the same track is found over on side B - the aptly-named ‘Party Track’. Hugely in-demand since being one of the stand-outs of Harvey’s recent Beats In Space mix, it’s an irrepressibly energetic floor-filler, driven by a solidly grooving rhythm section with ultra-funky bass, wild space-age synth twangs, off-kilter chords and of course plenty of exhortations to ‘Par-Tay’!
