That I Am Paolo Rocco

Reflecting Real Tone's penchant for picking up on new talent, our latest release comes courtesy of Canadian producer Paolo Rocco. Since his debut as a Dj in 2006, a combination of extensive work ethics and natural flair has brought the Canadian-born Italian a strong following in his native city Montreal. Having grown up in a cosmopolitan neighbourhood, Paolo's influences come from a diverse melting pot of sonic soundscapes and muscial genres. The raw characteristics of hip-hop is one of his primary sources of inspiration. After attending Tony Touch's Funkbox party in New York City and witnessing the crowds reaction to his remix of Nas & Ginuwine's "You Owe Me", Paolo's true vocation in life was realized. He was soon making his own tracks, and had his music released by labels Such as Made To Play. He met Franck Roger while the Frenchman was touring in Montreal, handing the very track that was to become his first Real Tone release, "That I Am". The track is a flawless deep house affair, slightly off-kilter with a haunting, pitched-down vocal that's offbeat and strange yet somehow fits so well with the track. Paolo supplies the vocal himself, as well as the infectious instrumental. Says Paolo: “The track is about defining one’s self, it’s a claim for ownership of one's identity and how sometimes people try to make you into what they think you should be. Everyone goes through experiences in life where they find themselves questioning who they really are because of others. Accompanying the track is another original production entitled I Fly High, which juxtaposes the title track with its funky bassline and wistful vocals. Less leftfield and more sublime, it offsets That I Am perfectly. The highly-anticipated comeback of the legend Point G makes this EP even more special.
