Music as a strategy for Geographical Education

This work has no pretension to institute a "new Geography", nor to put clothes or layers in order to oxygenate an outdated science. No. Geography is beautiful and its concepts are interesting by themselves! The proposal is to punctuate and understand the different geographic and historical landmarks through a musical interpretation. In this way, the studies on the Great African-American Migration (1915-1960) bring musical manifestations that reveal the geographical essence of the phenomenon. African rhythmic traditions merged with European structures; North American popular music was born there, in the Deep South, as a product of complex socio-spatial dynamics. Thus, we seek a geographic education capable of expanding didactic horizons. In the light of Complexity Theory (Morin, 2000), the geographical fact is developed through a musical investigation of the North American territory.
