The band became Johnny and the Moondogs. It was briefly the Black Jacks, the Rainbows, the Nerk Twins (a Paul and John duo). The group became the Quarry Men. They were also Long John and the Silver Beetles, the Silver Beetles, the Silver Beatals or the Silver Beats. Eventually they were the Beatals, and finally the Beatles. In Liverpool, the band assembled and played at the Best's Casbah club, also at the Caldwell's Morgue club. They mixed with the likes of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cass and the Cassanovas, and Derry and the Seniors. Cynthia and John became best friends, as did Stuart and John. Alan Williams, owner of the Jacaranda café helped the Beatles find work, including a tour of Scotland backing Johnnie Gentle. Williams linked up with club people in Germany and arranged for the band to take a short residency in Hamburg. First, the lads had to find a replacement drummer, who was Pete.
