After his childhood, and having finished his studies in a provincial school and the faculty of Rouen, Carlos Bovary, recently transferred to Tostes to practice as a doctor, marries a widow at the express request of his mother, although the relationship will not last long. because this first wife of Charles passes away shortly after the marriage. After the death of his first wife and, due to his work, Charles must visit Mr. Rouault on a farm and there he meets a beautiful young woman, Mr. Rouault's daughter named Emma. Charles falls in love with her and asks Mr. Rouault for the hand of her daughter in marriage. She consents and becomes Mrs. Bovary. Madame Bovary, an assiduous reader of romantic novels, has ideas about marriage that will not correspond to her relationship with Charles. After a visit to the house of the Marquis de Vaubyessard, Emma once again fantasizes about an idyllic and privileged life. But her return to reality, to a boring life with her husband, makes Madame Bovary fall ill. For her recovery, Charles decides to change of scene and move to a town near Rouen, Yonville, where his life will continue to be just as monotonous.
